Rhinoplasty Q&A

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is surgery on your nose that can have both medical and cosmetic purposes. Issues Dr. Ezon can address with rhinoplasty include:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • An oversize nose
  • Wide nose
  • Humps or hollows
  • An enlarged or bulbous nose tip
  • Upturned or drooping nose
  • Hooked or crooked nose
  • Large or flared nostrils
  • Injuries like a broken nose

Dr. Ezon can perform septoplasty at the same time to correct a deviated septum (where the bone and cartilage dividing your nasal passages is crooked). If you have chronically blocked sinuses, he can also carry out sinus surgery at the same time as rhinoplasty.

Is rhinoplasty right for me?

To be sure rhinoplasty is the right choice for you, Dr. Ezon has a consultation with you beforehand. He will discuss your concerns and tell you what to expect as a result of the surgery.

It’s also important to consider your expectations and why you want the surgery. Rhinoplasty is an excellent choice for people with realistic expectations. But cosmetic procedures aren’t advisable for patients with conditions like body dysmorphic disorder (BDD).

What happens when I have rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty requires general anesthesia (you’re asleep throughout the operation) or intravenous sedation and local anesthetic (you’re awake but sleepy and relaxed).

Dr. Ezon has several options when performing rhinoplasty. He can use a closed method, where the incisions he makes are inside your nose, or an open procedure, where he makes an incision through the tissue between your nostrils as well. The method Dr. Ezon selects will be whichever is best for you.

Next, Dr. Ezon restructures the cartilage and bone in your nose. If you’ve asked for a smaller nose, he takes away the excess bone or cartilage. He can reshape your nose by removing cartilage from one portion of your nose and grafting it where it’s needed.

Once Dr. Ezon completes your rhinoplasty, he places a nose splint on the outside. The splint secures your nose so it holds its new shape during the healing process. You’re likely to have some swelling and bruising, but this should fade within a few weeks.
