Eyelid Surgery Q&A

What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) is surgery around your eyes. It is a commonly performed surgery when signs of aging begin to show.

This procedure can be performed on its own, or it can be combined with other facial procedures to enhance your appearance.

What can eyelid surgery treat?

With eyelid surgery, it can treat two important eyelid issues.

First, it can eliminate excess skin of the upper and lower eyelids. Or, it can remove or  redistribute excess fat seen through the skin as puffiness or “bags.”

Issues Dr. Ezon can address with eyelid surgery include:

  • Sagging upper or lower eyelids
  • Bags underneath your eyes
  • Fat buldging around your eyes
  • Excess skin on your eyelids

As you get older, your skin loses elasticity, moisture and firmness. Dr. Ezon can address these changes in the skin around your eyes with eyelid surgery.

How is the process for eyelid surgery?

Dr. Ezon offers upper or lower eyelid surgery (or you can have both depending on your needs and goals). During the procedure, he eliminates excess skin and fat around the eyes, and if needed, he can redistribute the fat to other areas.

What is recovery like after eyelid surgery?

Once Dr. Ezon completes your eyelid surgery, he provides you with specific care instructions. Then, he provides you with specific care instructions to help with your recovery process.

You’ll likely experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort following your procedure. Dr. Ezon may recommend oral medications, cold compresses and lubricating ointment to reduce your symptoms.

It’s also important to wear sunglasses because it can protect the incisions of your eyelid surgery from environmental factors that can cause infection. In addition, if you receive too much sun, it can darken your surgery scars and may lead to further swelling.

If you experience any symptoms that cause significant discomfort or pain, please see Dr. Ezon at Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery. As always, you can ask him questions about what you can expect prior to eyelid surgery or express your concerns during the recovery process.
